Planned Gifts, Bequests & Securities

There are many ways to support the work and mission of PRISMA through legacy giving, including:

  • gifts of securities (see below)
  • gifts left in your will
  • RRSP/RRIF
  • life insurance
  • annuities that provide income to you during your lifetime
  • gifts made through retirement plans
  • real estate and other property

Endowment Fund

The PRISMA Endowment Fund is held at the Gift Funds Canada Foundation to provide for the long term financial success of our organization. The capital of the PRISMA Endowment Fund remains untouched, and only the income from the fund is used for our ongoing programs. We are still building the PRISMA Endowment Fund and accepting gifts from donors who want to contribute in this way. If you would like to make a donation to the PRISMA Endowment Fund , please contact Melanie Munroe at executivedirector@prismafestival.com

Securities

Give stocks, bonds, mutual funds, or other publicly-traded securities. If you have publicly traded securities in your portfolio that would generate a substantial taxable gain if sold, consider donating securities. You will receive a tax receipt for the full market value of the securities at the closing trading price on the day they are received and will not owe capital gains tax on the advantage of the securities from the cost base. PRISMA will receive the net value of the sale of the securities less brokerage commission. The tax advantage to donating the securities vs. selling the securities and then donating the cash proceeds is substantial.

If you like more information about the above, please contact Melanie Munroe at executivedirector@prismafestival.com

Volunteering

Volunteers are the lifeblood of PRISMA. They contribute to the community by supporting students, guest artists and audience members and also play an important role in community outreach and school education programs. To become a volunteer, sign up here.

PRISMA volunteers get to meet new friends and spend time with old friends who share their appreciation of fine music. In recognition for their time, volunteers will earn complimentary access to concerts.

PRISMA is currently seeking volunteers in the following areas:

  •  Ushering
  • Box Office Support
  • Stage Crew
  • Driving
  • Food & Beverage Service
  • Merchandise Sales
  • Homestay Hosting (Click here to learn more about what is required.)

With our move towards free tuition for as many students as possible with the Musical Merit Fund, we are in need of more homestay hosts than ever! Our students come to Powell River from all over the world, and the community is frequently cited as one of their favourite parts of the festival. If you’re interested in billeting a student or two or have any questions about the process, we encourage you to contact us.

Here’s what homestay hosts Madeleine and Fraser Field said about their experience hosting PRISMA students in recent years:

“Hosting a PRISMA home stay student is easy. The students are mature and look after themselves, and PRISMA provides their lunches and dinners. Just breakfast and a ride to and from the Complex needed. The benefits? Beautiful music in the house, meeting some of these talented young people, and helping PRISMA–win-win!”
