Concerts April 26 in Powell River and April 27 in Courtenay. Tickets are on sale now!
Powell River, B.C. – Pacific Region International Summer Music Academy (PRISMA) is thrilled to announce the return of Edwin Sungpil Kim to British Columbia for a two-night engagement this April. Kim will perform concerts April 26 in Powell River and April 27 in Courtenay.
No stranger to Powell River or to PRISMA, Kim appeared as a guest artist at the 2015, 2016 and 2017 festivals and quickly became a crowd favourite for his on-stage charisma and off-stage charm. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear one of North America’s finest pianists in an intimate theatre setting, playing a mix of timeless classics and contemporary repertoire.
In September 2017 Kim won the 3rd Australian International Chopin Piano competition, the crown jewel on a year that was full of recital engagements worldwide. Kim’s program for these April concerts will feature several Chopin pieces, alongside classics by Beethoven and Balkirev, and contemporary repertoire by Dong-chang Lim. Jason Robert Brown and Alan Menken. There will also be a special guest appearance by PRISMA music director Arthur Arnold on cello.
“Edwin is a pianist extraordinaire,” remarks Arnold. “During PRISMA 2016 and 2017 audiences went crazy when he played solo. Now you will have the chance to hear him in a full recital with touching lyrical music, virtuoso pieces with fingers faster than you can follow. This is going to be one of those rare events that you will never forget. Don’t miss it!”
These concerts are made possible thanks to the support of PRISMA’s founding sponsor, Balfe/Somers Wealth Management of RBC Dominion Securities.
