Richard Ranti had 40 year career playing in the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Boston Symphony Orchestra while making guest appearances in such orchestras as Toronto Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, National Arts Centre Orchestra, and in many other orchestral and chamber ensembles in the U.S., Canada, Europe and Japan.
His past year’s activities have included performances with St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, St. Luke’s Orchestra, and the Grand Teton Festival Orchestra. Mr. Ranti taught at New England Conservatory and at Boston University for decades.
He also teaches privately and in masterclasses throughout the world. At the Tanglewood Music Center he worked with many bassoonists who now occupy top positions throughout North America. His early musical education was primarily his family music-making; his formal education on the bassoon started with Sidney Rosenberg and David Carroll of the Montreal Symphony, and continued in such institutions as Interlochen Arts Academy, Curtis Institute, Tanglewood Music Center, Spoleto and Marlboro festivals, National Youth Orchestra of Canada, and many other American and Canadian music organizations.
