Catherine Turner is the Principal Horn of the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal.  Before her appointment as Principal Horn in 2022, she held the position of Second Horn in the OSM since 2010.  During the 2021-2022 season, she was Acting Principal Horn of the Baltimore Symphony.  Prior to joining the OSM, Catherine was Fourth Horn of the San Antonio Symphony, and Assistant Principal/Utility Horn of The Florida Orchestra.  Catherine is also Principal Horn of the Colorado Music Festival Orchestra, and has performed as a guest Principal Horn with the New York Philharmonic, the Detroit Symphony, the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, Les Violons du Roy, and as a guest Associate Principal Horn with the Cincinnati Symphony.

Catherine has been featured as a soloist with the Colorado Music Festival Orchestra and the Aspen Music Festival Orchestra, where she was the winner of the Brass and Percussion Concerto Competition in 2009. She appeared as a Featured Artist at the Northeast Horn Workshop in 2021, and has also given solo recitals at Colorado State University and the University of Akron. In 2014, she was the winner of the Horn Division of the Susan Slaughter Solo Competition at the International Women’s Brass Conference.  Catherine has also presented masterclasses at the Northeast Horn Workshop, the Canadian Women’s Brass Collective, the University of Maryland, the University of Akron, Colorado State University, the University of Montreal, and Montreal Horn Day, and she is currently an instructor of horn at McGill University.

A native of West Chester, Ohio, Catherine began her own studies with Greg Snyder and Karen Schneider, before attending Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, where she was a student of William VerMeulen.  Her studies also took her to many summer programs, including the Tanglewood Music Center, and the Aspen Music Festival, where she was a student of John Zirbel.
